MisEauVert - news from the miscanthus experimental plot
We planted the miscanthus experimental plot last April. The aim is to monitor water quality, as part of the MisEauVert project.
Almost 6 months after planting, the plot has developed well. The plants are about a metre high, and the very last rhizomes are emerging. Plant density is around 14,000 plants per m², with no holes in the plot.
The plot was kept clean with two chemical weeding operations and one hoeing operation. A final weeding operation, to control grasses, will take place this winter. The plot will then go through a no-input phase for the duration of its cultivation, i.e. over 20 years.
The plot is monitored by INRAe's Ecosys and Hycar teams. The water flowing under the plot is sampled at the drainage outlet and analyzed for nitrates and pesticides.
Good conditions are therefore in place for future monitoring of the experimental plot.
