The planting season is drawing to a close in good weather conditions, with the last plants planted at the very beginning of July.
The end of the season was an opportunity for the whole team to see how miscanthus is used in dairy cattle, thanks to a visit to Ferme de la Tremblaye. Ferme de la Tremblaye planted 8 ha of miscanthus in 2023 and uses it as bedding for its 165 milking cows.
Over the last 3 years, the farm has been working to improve its system around 3 main themes: increasing the size of the dairy herd to supply its cheese dairy, while improving the well-being of the animals and farm employees.
One of the solutions implemented was to use miscanthus. The new buildings were designed specifically for the mixed and composted bedding system, replacing the old cubicles. The animals are clean and comfortable, and the cowherd's workload is reduced (3 cleanings per year, 30 min/day of mechanized bedding work).
The visit ended with a tasting of products from the farm and other local producers.
